RYA Powerboat Level 1

This course is an introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.

No pre-course experience necessary

Course content: Launching and preparing a boat, basic boat handling and returning to shore, background theory

Minimum duration: One day

Overview: The RYA's National Powerboat Scheme is for those wanting to drive small open powerboats such as RIBs (rigid inflatable boats), sports boats and small launches. These boats are generally powered by an outboard engine, do not normally have accommodation on board, and so are not intended for extended cruises. They may be used for short coastal or inland trips, diving, fishing or safety cover for other water sports like water-skiing Whether you use powerboats for leisure or work, or in connection with another activity such as sailing or rescue, we have a course for you. Most courses take place over two days and are conducted from our RIB or hardboat (or your own boat if suitable) by experienced commercial Instructor/Skippers, Dave and Danny. You can enter the programme at any level, provided that you have the relevant experience beforehand. Be realistic when assessing your current experience and abilities and, if in doubt, discuss your requirements with us at Discovery Divers before booking your course. Pre-assessment can be arranged by request. To find out about any of our courses available, please do not hesitate to contact us.
